Crewe Skip Hire FAQs

What are the different skip sizes available?

Skips come in a wide range of different sizes to match various waste disposal requirements. Each container is measured by volume, usually in cubic yards. The smallest of these sizes is the 2 yard skip, sometimes called the mini skip. It can hold approximately 25 bags of waste, which is great for small residential tasks.

Next up is the 4 cubic yard skip, which can be used to hold roughly 35 bin bags of waste. This skip is roughly the dimensions of a smallish car and is often described as a midi skip. The 4 yard skip is a great choice for shed clearances and domestic refurbishment jobs.

For those who have a more substantial waste disposal job to undertake, a builder’s skip could be the best choice. These can be ordered in both 6 and 8 cubic yards. As the title suggests, these represent the most typical sizes hired by builders for building and demolition waste, including clay and hardcore. But they can equally well be hired for household waste such as broken furniture or kitchen units.

We can also provide 10-16 cubic yard bins and industrial 20-40 yard roll-on roll-off containers. For more information about the range of skip sizes we have available, click the link below.

Guide to skip sizes

What size is the mini skip?

The mini skip is the smallest skip delivered by skip companies and is good for small DIY tasks, garage clearances and general tidy-ups. For the majority of companies, the mini skip will be a 2 cubic yard skip, which will contain the equivalent of roughly 25 black bags worth of waste.

Rather than a 2 cubic yard skip, some skip companies offer you a 3 yard as their smallest skip. They will refer to this as being a mini skip, which can be slightly confusing. But rest assured, the cost of hiring a skip is based on the actual size of the skip you order, so whether it is labelled as being a mini skip or not will not make a difference.

How long does it take to get a skip in Crewe?

We will make sure your skip is delivered on the day required, which in most cases is going to be Monday to Saturday. If you order prior to 3pm Monday to Friday, we can normally deliver your chosen skip the next day.

Although we are not able to guarantee an exact delivery time, we will do our best to arrive within either an AM or PM slot of your choosing.

You should ensure the skip lorry will be able to access the delivery location, as a failed delivery effort will often incur a fee for the wasted journey.

What is the cost of hiring a skip in Crewe?

The cost of getting a skip in Crewe will depend on the size of skip you want. The lowest priced option available is the 2 cubic yard mini skip, which is suitable for small DIY projects and general clearances. If you require a larger skip, such as an 8 yd builders skip, it will naturally cost more. The cost will also be more if you want to have the skip positioned on the highway, since you will need a skip permit, which the council charge a fee for.

How long can I keep the skip for?

Normally, you can have the skip for a maximum of 2 weeks. This means you do not need to rush through your project. Once you have completed your project or the skip is loaded prior to the 14-day mark, we will be glad to come and collect the skip earlier. Just give us a call or get in touch online, and we will be out to pick it up as quickly as possible.

What will happen to the rubbish in my skip once I have finished?

After you have finished filling your skip, we come and get it. It will be taken to a waste transfer centre either in or local to Crewe where we separate the rubbish into its composite types (timber, metal, concrete, etc.). By separating the rubbish, we can recycle as much of it as possible.

What is a roll-on roll-off skip?

Roll-on roll-off (RORO) skips are large industrial size skips used mainly within the business sector. These come in 20-40 cubic yards, making them great for organisations that generate significant volumes of waste materials.

Can I dispose of electronic products in my skip?

I’m afraid it is not permitted, since electronic items including old televisions, cookers, pcs and monitors are classed as hazardous waste. Due to The Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations 2013, electrical items need to be kept separate so that they can be recycled and disposed of in a secure and eco-friendly fashion.

What is the size of a builders skip?

As the name suggests, a builders skip means the size of skip most commonly used for construction projects. There are typically two skip sizes that can be classed as being a builder’s skip – the 6 yard and 8 yard skip. They are both heavy-duty containers which can be used to get rid of substantial quantities of construction and demolition waste materials, such as dirt, concrete and rock.

Although labelled a builders skip, these can be used for many other household and industrial waste disposal tasks.

Do I need to be at home when the skip is due to be delivered?

It usually is best if you can be there when anyone delivers anything to your property. You can then make sure there is sufficient access for your delivery, and the skip can be located just where you want it.

The same applies if you have a business. If there is a gate or security, it might not be possible to get a skip delivered when you are not present.

Nonetheless, if it is unavoidable and access is not an issue, you do not have to be there when the skip is being delivered.

Which skip sizes will have a drop door?

Typically, nearly all skips can be provided with a drop down door, dependant upon skip size, availability and area. If you want a drop-down door, be sure to let us know when ordering your skip.

Ordering a skip that has a drop door is mainly beneficial when you are choosing a large builder’s skip, as it enables you to wheelbarrow your waste into the skip. This is not so important for midi and mini skips, since they are small enough at the edges for you to be able to tip waste over the edge.

Do you deliver skips across Cheshire?

In addition to delivering our range of skips to Crewe, we can also deliver to other towns and villages within Cheshire. By utilising our network of regional and national skip companies, we provide a totally nationwide service. So whether you need a skip delivering in Crewe, Lymm or Sandbach, we have got it covered.

Can I throw all kinds of rubbish in my skip?

You can fill your skip with a wide range of different waste types which are commonly generated from house clearances, construction projects, garden landscaping and many other jobs. This could include wood, top soil, concrete, garden trimmings, furniture, clothing, cabinets or old bathroom suites.

What you throw in the skip will depend on the skip size you have hired, because there is a maximum weight limit. For example, when you are using a skip for heavy construction waste like stone or top soil, the maximum size you can get is an 8 yard skip.

Some materials cannot be discarded in your skip. This can include fridges, computer monitors, tyres, chemicals, paint, asbestos and plasterboard. These materials are considered hazardous waste and therefore need to be disposed of separately.

Can I have a skip delivered on the road in Crewe?

If at all possible, you should have the skip dropped on a hard surface. If you are doing a domestic project, then your driveway is going to be perfect. If it is a commercial job, then a car park or business premises is the way to go. Having said that, if neither option is available, the street or grass verge may be your only option. As this is public land, you will have to get a permit from your local authority. This is called a skip permit, and will be required for a skip to be positioned on the street, grass verge as well as other public property in Crewe. If this is needed, we will request the permit to be issued on your behalf. An extra cost, paid to the local council, will be added to the cost of your chosen skip size.

Can I stack up the waste in my skip?

Unfortunately not. You must only fill up the skip up to the level load line. Stacking waste up over this line makes it dangerous to transport, and you might be told to take off the extra waste before your skip can be picked up. This includes the use of doors, or other materials to raise the height of the skip. Again, this can make transportation of the skip hazardous and could also make it overweight.

Other areas covered include Lymm, Sandbach, Alsager, Winsford, Wilmslow, Nantwich, Northwich and Macclesfield.
